Local Listings

So exactly what are local listings?
Local directory listings are free online sources that contain basic information about businesses, including:
  • business name
  • phone number
  • address
  • hours of operation
  • photos
  • and possibly reviews and ratings
Local listings, like Google and Bing are also factored into search results in organic and maps searches.

Are local listings of importance to your web presence?
The answer to that question is YES, YES and of course YES! A correct local listing is not only important but the central to your search engine optimization. Search engines like Google and Bing populates these sites at the top of their organic search engine results when a user is searching with a LOCALLY. You need to make sure you are providing the most accurate, current and attractive information possible to turn searchers into leads.

How do I start?
First perform a search on Google using your business name. Visit each local directory listing to claim and update your business information such as your business name, phone number, address, hours of operation, and photos.

If your business is not listed, you need to submit your business listing on key sites like Google, Bing,  and Yelp. Of course you should not stop there; your business should be listed on many general and industry-specific sites across the web. But a good place to start is on those three sites.

To determine the top sites for your business, you can conduct a search for your service offerings to see other local directories that Google is displaying in the top 30 search results. Visit each one to claim or add your local business information.
Here are those three links: Once  your listings are claimed or submitted, you’ll need to  maintain them to make sure they always contain the most accurate information about your business.

NOTE: Always, make sure that whoever is taking care of this in your organization uses an email and login that will be available to you, the owner if that person ever leaves the company. This is extremely important.
